Review of Darkwing by Kenneth Oppel

This book is set in a prehistoric forest. In this book the dinasaurs (saurians) are being hunted to extinction by the beasts. Dusk (the main character) is a chiropter (similar to a bat but can only glide and doesn't have echolocation) and is part of colony of chiropters that live on a secluded island and that refuse to hunt saurian eggs. His dad is leader of the colony and the one who broke away from the mainland. Dusk and the other newborns no nothing of this though, they think that the saurians died out hundreds of years ago. This all changes when something crashes into the clearing and almost kills Dusk. This book had a slow beginning in my opinion but eventually it picks up and becomes a fast-paced adventure fill of action, death-defying escapes, and betrayal. This is a great book if you are looking for a book to fill in the gaps between series and it earns four stars out of five from me.
